Als Apéritif, zu Käse, in Saucen – für Sherry, von trocken bis zuckersüss, findet sich immer eine Verwendungsmöglichkeit. Und irgendwie kennen wir ihn alle. Was zumindest ich nicht wusste: Den Namen „Sherry“ verdankt der andalusische Likörwein dem maurischen Ortsnamen „Sherish“, dem heutigen Jerez de la Frontera. Den Namen Sherry dürfen deshalb nur Weine aus den Städten Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlúcar de Barrameda und El Puerto de Santa María tragen.
As aperitif, with cheese or for cooking, you will always find a good use for Sherry as there are all kinds from very dry to extremely sweet. And we somehow all know it. What at least I didn’t know: the name Sherry that the andalusian liqueur carries comes from the arab name of „Sherish“, now Jerez in Spanish. And only wines from the regions of Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlúcar de Barrameda and El Puerto de Santa María are allowed to carry that name.
In aller Welt höchst beliebt sind Fino (der Feine – hell, gelblich), Manzanilla (etwas salzig, zartbitter), Oloroso (der Duftende – trocken, bernsteinfarben) + Co. seit dem ausgehenden 19. Jht. 1838 gründete Manuel María González die Firma auf Anraten seines Onkels José -Tio Pepe.
Since the end of the 19th century are Fino (the refined – clear and yellowish), Mazanilla (sligthly salty and savoury), Oloroso (the perfumed – dry and amber coloured) & co world famous. In 1838 a young banker, Manuel María González, decided to start a winery and to name one of his sherries „Tio Pepe“ to honour his uncle José.
